However, it's been a couple of years now since I've done any programming involving Windows Forms in IE, so I'm no longer in a very good position to answer questions about it. You might try asking over at the MSDN forums; but I agree, information about Windows Forms running in IE is hard to come by online. I always had trouble finding relevant information online when I was working in that technology (which was a primary impetus for putting this post together!).Jon Schneiderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05718316809087214442noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22120968.post-14777049981881433362009-07-31T16:36:06.242-04:002009-07-31T16:36:06.242-04:00Hi Jon,

I read through the article on allowing OpenFileDialog access to a windows form in IE but it seems to rely on the end user modifying their .Net security settings. How can I setup the application so that it performs the 'oneclick' trust style and allows the user to select files using the OpenFileDialog?

Thanks!Sam Nicholsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22120968.post-86510557230654216652009-03-31T17:00:00.000-04:002009-03-31T17:00:00.000-04:00PaulG, you're welcome! Regarding your question, d...PaulG, you're welcome!

Regarding your question, do you mean that you'd like to show a more user-friendly error message on the screen when something goes wrong instead of just the broken control with the cryptic "colorful icon"? I'm not sure, off the top of my head -- I've not tried to do that, myself. Maybe you could write some Javascript that would try to access a property of the control, and if that fails, the script could write out the friendly error message at that point?Jon Schneiderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05718316809087214442noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22120968.post-24734274667012851272009-03-31T16:39:00.000-04:002009-03-31T16:39:00.000-04:00Thanks for posting this. It wasn't necessary to update the control version number to see the change.

It sounds like what might be happening is that the client's cached version of the downloaded classes are not being cleared properly when a new version of the classes are present on the server.

The first thing I might look into is whether there is some configuration setting on the client that is affecting this behavior. Are you seeing this behavior on all client machines, or only on a particular one?

You might also take a look at the IIS request logs on your server to see whether or not the client is requesting the files for your updated classes; this might help give you some additional insight into what's going on.

Good luck with your troubleshooting!Jon Schneiderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05718316809087214442noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22120968.post-48167396696591256962008-07-02T10:50:00.000-04:002008-07-02T10:50:00.000-04:00I have noticed that when I make a change to the Wi...I have noticed that when I make a change to the Windows form control, I cannot see the changed version in the browser until I run gacutil /cdl.
